Carting, Sledding and Weight Pulling
Rottweiler pulling man in wheelchairCarting (weight-pulling and sledding too)

As Rottweiler owners, breeders, and exhibitors we are to promote quality and responsible breeding of the Rottweiler, to encourage sportsmanship, to educate the public about the true nature of the breed, and to educate people about proper care, socialization, and training of the Rottweiler. Above all, to enjoy every aspect of this wonderful "working" breed and to have fun with their Rottweiler during the very short time we all have with them.

Since Ancient Rome drover dogs guarded and herded the cattle for soldiers. They brought the meat to market for butchers while carrying the day's money pouch on their collars. Rottweilers became known as the Butchers dog, however this was not the only job they did. Rottweilers were used in many fields along with many other working breeds you know today who shared these jobs. Through the ages they have been helpers to farmers, plowing fields, protecting livestock, Water Drawer's from the wells, Tinker Cur's transporting tinker's tools, Turnpit's kitchen service dogs that turn the spit for meat to be roasted, the Delivery dog for milk and wood. Many of these jobs involved pulling a cart and were given to the specific breed of dog that inherently worked well at it.

They can haul lawn clippings in your yard, take your trash cans to the curb, or transport heavy items for you. Rottweilers are happiest when they are working, why not give them a "job" carting for you !!

Although we have found these working drives are still alive in our breed, the Rottweiler, some have been bred out. We encourage our breeders to be proactive in training and breeding so that this ancestral instinct is not breed out of the lines and they remain the true "working dogs" that they have always been.

A natural sport and activity for the Rottweiler, read more about it on the American Rottweiler Club's website: http://www.amrottclub.org/carting.htm
